Looking for that perfect Italian Beef just like you would get at Portillo's. This is a pretty close copy.
Thinly sliced deli roast beef, simmered in a slightly spicy gravy then loaded on a Turano roll and topped with giardiniera. If you really like the gravy, dip your whole sandwich in the gravy before adding the giardiniera.
Add some fries and dinner is ready.
Ingredients:
Gravy:
2 cups beef broth
2 tbs vermouth (or white wine, balsamic or lemon juice)
1 tbs worsteshire
1/2 tsp thyme
1/4 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp Pinch of MSG
Beef:
4 Turano rolls
1 lbs pound roast beef sliced very thin
Marconi hot giardiniera
Directions:
Start warming the gravy, vermouth & worsteshire. When it is just simmering on the edges, add the dry spices and bring to a boil.
Once it boils, reduce to a simmer for 15-20 minutes.
Tear the roast beef slices into smaller pieces.
When there is 5 minutes left on the gravy, lightly toast the buns and add the roast beef beef to the gravy for about 2 minutes.
Add the beef to the buns then if desired, dip into the gravy, then top with giardiniera.
