After trying many pizza sauce recipes, I have developed my own that may just become known as the perfect pizza sauce. Ok, maybe not, but it is the sauce that is my goto pizza sauce.
It has the perfect balance of sweetness, rich tomato flavor and the right amount of garlic & basil. The key comes from the caramelized onions.
Give it try on your next pizza night.
BTW, bacon & cheese breadsticks are pretty great to dip in this sauce as well.
Ingredients:
28 oz (794g) can of crushed tomatoes
2 small shallots
2 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil
Salt to taste (2-3 tsp)
3-4 tbs sugar
5-6 basil leaves
Directions:
Add the shallots in a medium size pot with some olive oil. Once they start to soften, add the garlic for about 2 minutes.
Add the tomatoes and simmer for 30 minutes.
Add the salt and sugar little by little as it is simmering.
