White Castle. Either you love it or you hate it. If you love it, did you ever wish you could make them at home? If you hate them, did you ever think that the idea of a small burger sounds good, buy you just want it to taste good?
We have both sides of this dilemma in our family. We made this White Castle clone the other night and everyone loved it. We kept it simple, but feel free to tweak the beef portion of the recipe to add jalapenos or anything else.
White Castle Sliders Clone
Ingredients:
1 lb ground chuck
2/3 cup beef broth
1 cup chopped onions
20 small dinner rolls
American cheese slices (if desired)
Pickle slices (if desired)
Instructions:
Prepare a 10x14in baking sheet by spraying it with non-stick spray.
Mix beef and broth gently by hand till all the liquid is incorporated.
Spread the beef mixture on the baking sheet, then cover with plastic wrap. Use a rolling pin or another object to flatten the meat so it covers the entire pan evenly. Remove the plastic wrap and with a butter knife or spatula, score the beef into 2.5 inch squares. Cover with plastic wrap then place pan in freezer until the meat is frozen solid.
After mixture is frozen, remove from freezer, remove plastic wrap, then re-score the squares with a knife and gently break apart the patties.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, cover the bottom of the pan with chopped onions, then place as many patties on to of the onions as you can fit in the pan. Cook the patties for 2-3 minutes on each side, flipping only one time.
When the burger is ready to take off the skillet, place the top of the bun on each pattie, then remove from pan with a healthy scoop of onions. Add cheese and pickle if desired, then add the bottom of the bun.
Repeat process till all of your burgers are made. Make sure to keep adding additional onions each time you put more burgers in the pan. This should make 20-25 small burgers. Count on 4-5 burgers for each person.
