As much as I like hot, hot, hot chicken wings, most others that I eat with don't appreciate the heat. A little warmth, but not real heat. Because of that, I have learned a few different recipes that bring in other flavors with little or no heat. This is one of the "no heat" options.
You may be ready to leave this recipe, but you will be missing out on a truly flavorful wing recipe. This extremely simple recipie will have you licking your lips, fingers and anything else nearby, looking for a few more wings to add to your plate.
We served these wings as a Christmas appetizer and even my 90+ year old grandmother was asking for the recipie. If you are like her, bourbon may not be something you keep in the cupboard, but you can substitue apple juice for the burbon and come close to the taste, but you will be loosing some of the richness that the bourbon provide.
Please enjoy as we did:
Ingredients:
3/4 cup of brown sugar
3/4 cup of soy sauce
3/4 cup of bourbon
4 cloves of crushed garlic
1 tsp fresh ginger
1/2 of a small onion, minced
2 lbs chicken wings
Instructions:
To create the marinade, in a large bowl, combine all of the ingredients except the chicken wings.
Place chicken wings in a large baggie, then pour the marinade and seal tightly.
Allow to marinate in the fridge for at least 4 hours and preferrably overnight.
Place wings in an 8x8 or 9x11 baking dish. Add just a little marrinade to cover the bottom of the pan. Bake in a 350F oven for 45 to 50 minutes.
Turn the wings once 1/2 way through.
Remove and server as is, no BBQ sauce allowed.
