Simple chocolate ice cream recipe that is perfect for 1.5 qt ice cream makers.
To kick this up a notch, add 3/4 - 1 cup of peanut brittle during the last 5 minutes of mixing in the ice cream maker.

Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 egg yolks, lightly beaten
- 2 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
- Put a mixing bowl in the freezer. This will be used to cool the cooked base.
- Combine sugar, milk, salt, and cocoa powder in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly.
- Bring to a simmer.
- Place the egg yolks into a small bowl and gradually stir in about 1/2 cup of the hot liquid.
- Return to the saucepan and heat, stirring frequently, until thickened, but do not boil.
- Remove from the heat, and stir in the chopped chocolate until chocolate is melted. Pour into a chilled bowl, and refrigerate for about two hours until cold, stirring occasionally.
- When chocolate mixture has completely cooled, stir in the cream, and vanilla.
- Pour into an ice cream maker, and freeze according to manufacturer's directions.
Notes:
- If adding any additional ingredients, add the crushed ingredients during the last 5 minutes of mixing.
